Career highlights: The British-American tenor’s engagements this season include role and house debuts as Peter in Porgy and Bess at the Metropolitan Opera, the Duke in Rigoletto with Opera Philadelphia, Loge in Das Rheingold at Virginia Opera and Don Ottavio in Don Giovanni at the Berkshire Opera Festival. He also performed Handel’s Messiah at Carnegie Hall with the Oratorio Society of New York and will return to Opera Theatre of Saint Louis as Tamino in The Magic Flute. This season’s highlights include Leonore in Fidelio in Venice, Isolde in Tristan und Isolde in Santa Fe, the title role of Ariadne auf Naxos in Munich, the title role of Turandot in Houston and Desdemona in Otello with the Cleveland Orchestra. Recent appearances include the title role of Aida at the Metropolitan Opera, Leonora in Il Trovatore in Chicago, Amelia in Un Ballo in Maschera at the Deutsche Oper Berlin, the title role of Turandot and Desdemona in Otello in Toronto, the title role of Ariadne auf Naxos at La Scala, and Chrysothemis in Elektra in Zurich.

About: Hailed as “an artist to treasure” by the New York Times, she rose to the highest echelon of international performers within just a few years of her professional debut. Her operatic roles span four centuries, from Monteverdi’s Poppea to Sister Helen Prejean in Jake Heggie’s Dead Man Walking, which was written especially for her. A familiar face at New York’s Metropolitan Opera, she also maintains a strong international presence at such key venues as Paris’s Théâtre du Châtelet, Santa Fe Opera and the Hollywood Bowl. She won a Grammy Award for her collection of Ives songs. Highlights of the 2021/22 season include Ferrando in Così fan tutte  at San Francisco Opera, Pylade in Iphigénie en Tauride at the Opéra de Rouen and a return to the Metropolitan Opera for Tom Rakewell in The Rake’s Progress.

He has sung regularly with the Vienna State Opera, Bavarian State Opera and Semperoper Dresden.

Career highlights: In 2021, he returned to Santa Fe Opera as Demetrius in A Midsummer Night’s Dream. In 2019, he made his role debut as Escamillo in Carmen with the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra. He also appeared in Zemlinsky’s Lyric Symphony and in the U.S. premiere of Korngold’s Das Wunder der Heliane with the Bard Music Festival. Other recent appearances include the First Officer and Croupier in Candide at Santa Fe Opera and the Cobbler in Philip Glass’s The Juniper Tree at Wolf Trap Opera.
